Bavaria Germanair

Bavaria Germanair was a German charter airline based in Munich and based on the Munich-Riem airport. It originated from the merger of Bavaria airline and Germanair and eventually went on even in the Hapag -Lloyd Flug.

History

The Munich businessman Josef Schörghuber came in 1970 in the possession of the airline Germanair. Four years later also took over the airline Bavaria the Schörghuber Group. Both companies flew initially continue under its own identity, but coordinated their cooperation through common management. On 1 March 1977, the two airlines merged to Bavaria Germanair.

Even before the merger was announced that Josef Schörghuber was looking for a business partner for his airline. In particular, the upcoming renewal of the fleet, which consisted mainly of older and noisy BAC 1-11, represented a huge investment risk he did not want to venture alone. After unsuccessful negotiations with Bayerische Landesbank and Lufthansa he could win the airline Hapag -Lloyd Flug for talks, which was only interested in a majority stake but. Josef Schörghuber took this opportunity and sold the Bavaria Germanair only a month after their merger to Hapag -Lloyd Flug. The German Cartel rated this sale critical. Hapag -Lloyd was allowed the acquiree not initially integrate into their own airline, but had to continue under the name Bavaria Germanair.

After the end of 1978 was present, the approval of the Cartel for a merger of the two companies, Bavaria Germanair was incorporated in January 1979 completely in Hapag -Lloyd Flug. This is now part of TUIfly.
