Baveno

Baveno is a municipality with 4888 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in the Italian province of Verbano -Cusio -Ossola (VCO ), Region Piedmont.

The neighboring municipalities are Grave Toce, Stresa and Verbania.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 205 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 17 km ². In the up into the village towering mountains, such as the mountain Monte Camossio, pink granite is mined and processed, partially processed at the site. The rock from Baveno has been used, among others, the construction of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan and the Basilica of San Paolo in Rome. The architect Fabrizio Bianchetti in 1997 designed sculpture IL LAGO E LE MONTAGNE on the waterfront of Baveno shows in the form of peaks different, coming from the region, building stone green, white and pink granite gneiss and silver.

Tourism

Baveno is established as a resort since the 19th century and offers from bed & breakfast to the Grandhotel numerous tourist accommodation and infrastructure. Worth seeing are the publicly accessible Villa Fedora with its large park and the church " SS Gervasio e Protasio " from the 18th century and a baptistery dating from the 11th century with a portico of the 16th century. From the boat dock with an old Art Nouveau building different lines connect the city with the upstream Borromean Islands and other places on the lake.
