Bavorov

Bavorov (formerly Obrovice, German Barau, latin Bavarovium ) is a city in the South Bohemian Region South Bohemia, Czech Republic. It belongs to Okres Strakonice.

Geography

Bavorov located eight kilometers west of Vodňany at the Blanice. Neighboring towns are Budyně in the north, Svinetice in the northeast, Chelčice in the east, and Truskovice Barovské Svobodné Hory in the southeast, and Šipoun Strunkovice in the south, Dubská Lhota, dub and Bročice in the southwest, and Tourov Trzice in the west and Utesov in the northwest. Five kilometers east of Bavorov lie the ruins of the castle Helfenburg. Through the village leads to the bike path 1074.

History

Bavorov was on the Gold Trail and was first mentioned in 1228 as Obrovice documented. It was owned by the Bavors of Strakonitz from which is derived the name of locality and built a wooden castle here.

1351 acquired the brothers Peter, Jobst, and Johann Ulrich von Rosenberg Bavorov. Four years later they built with approval of King Charles IV east of Bavorov the Help castle that served as the administrative headquarters of the reign of the same name, was one of the Bavorov. 1359 established the Rosenbergs a hospice and a school. In 1361 they awarded Bavorov the privileges of a royal town in 1381 and the Rosenberg Coat of arms with the five-petalled rose. Because of the support of the Bohemian Estates uprising Prachatice lost after the Battle of White Mountain, his possessions by Imperial confiscation. After the abolition of patrimonial Bavorov in 1850 the District filed Pisek and 1853 collected by the county to the city. 1867 a fire destroyed much of the city.

After the Second World War Bavorov lost its city rights in 1949. In 2000 it was raised again to the city.
