History

1311 Bechhofen was first mentioned as " Pechoven at the Bison". The name goes back to a Pechsiederei. 1351, Emperor Charles IV the Konrad chef of Forndorf for the market Bechhofen the court. The place also had the right market at least since 1434 and was attached.

From 1643 the Ansbachische court in damp cheeks was responsible for Bechhofen. Thus the place was part of the 1792 acquired by Prussia Principality of Ansbach, which lay in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500. As part of the Principality of Bechhofen fell in the Treaty of Paris ( February 1806 ) by exchange to the Kingdom of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform emerged with the community of 1818, the current community. The Jewish population is said to have identified nearly two-thirds of the total population of the village in the years 1700-1860. The synagogue, called a barn synagogue with a rich decoration of the 18th century by Eliezer Sussmann, was destroyed in 1938. The Jewish population emigrated or were deported and killed during the Third Reich.

From 1903 to 1970 was in Bechhofen the terminus of the railway line Leutershausen - Wiedersbach - Bechhofen, connecting the city with Ansbach and for the transport of the brush and brush manufactured there had a high importance.

Incorporations

During the territorial reform the previously independent municipalities Dear village and Thann were incorporated on 1 January 1971. On 1 July 1971 Heiner village and Königshofen followed (both then in the district Dinkelsbühl ), also Großenried, Kaudorf, Mörlach Sachs and Bach. On October 1, 1971, added a part of the dissolved municipality Wiesethbruck. On 1 January 1974 Waizendorf completed the list of eingemeindeten places.

The market council of Bechhofen has 20 members, added the full-time mayor ( UWG).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: Split of silver and red; front and rear on each side two rollers in confused colors with set-through golden spindles.

The rollers are used once for pitch production, which was operated in the wooded area. Even the name " Bechhofen " goes back to the pitch.

Twinning

The sister city since 1975, the commune in the Indre Le Blanc.

Culture and sights

Museums

Worth mentioning is the only German Brush Museum. Bechhofen is the center of the German brush industry. The museum has set itself the task to imagine that probably existed since the 18th century craft of brush and brush maker in all its diversity. To date, the brushes are manufactured partly in homework.

The private museum weigh & measure in Königshofen deals comprehensively with the dimensions, scales and weights. At over 3000 exhibits the issue weighing and measuring is extensively illustrated.
