Ben R. Luján

Ben Ray Luján ( born June 7, 1972 in Santa Fe, New Mexico) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He's since January 2009, a deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives and is representing the third congressional district of the state of New Mexico.

Life

Ben Lujans father, also named Ben Luján, is a member and President of the House of Representatives from New Mexico. His mother worked in school administration. He first attended the Pojoaque Valley High School and then the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and New Mexico Highland University.

Political career

Prior to his time as a Congressman Luján had already exercised many public offices. Between 2004 and 2008 he was a member and, since 2005, Chairman of Public Regulation Commission of New Mexico. He was Deputy Finance Minister of that State and Head of Department in the Ministry of Culture. In the congressional elections of 2008, Lujan was elected with 57% of the vote against two competitors in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he took over from the Senate exchanged Tom Udall on January 3, 2009. Luján is in favor of renewable energy and promotes appropriate programs. He is a member of the Committee on Homeland Security and the Science Committee.

In the congressional elections in 2012 Luján sat down with 63:37 percent of the vote against the Republicans by Jefferson Byrd. On the same day his cousin Michelle Lujan Grisham was first elected in the first district of New Mexico in Congress.
