Bernhard II, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg
Bernhard II, Prince of Anhalt -Bernburg (* 1260, † by December 26, 1323 ) was a reigning sovereign anhaltischer of the family of Ascanians.
Life
He was the third son of Bernhard I of Anhalt -Bernburg and his wife Princess Sophie, daughter of King Abel of Denmark.
After the death of his father in 1287 Bernhard inherited the Principality of Anhalt- Bernburg, together with his oldest brother, Johann I.. The country was doing but not divided among the brethren, but they ruled together until Johann ( 1291 ) died four years later and Bernhard autocrat was of Anhalt- Bernburg. In 1300, he assumed the title of Count of Bernburg. A year later, his princely title was confirmed.
After the extinction of the elder line of Anhalt- Aschersleben ( 1316 ), he also inherited his princely title. He was also in December 1316, Bernhard II of Halberstadt bishop Albrecht I. - his brother - invested with house and town of Aschersleben. The Bernburger recognized thus to the lehnsrechtliche supremacy of the bishop, leading to years of disputes between the Anhaltinern and the diocese of Halberstadt to the Aschersleber heritage by itself. Although even the Emperor Louis IV the Bavarian repeatedly intervened in favor of the house of Anhalt- Bernburg, fell in 1333, the final decision: Aschersleben remained with the diocese of Halberstadt.
