Betsy Mitchell

Betsy Mitchell ( born January 15, 1966) is a former American swimmer.

At the World Championships 1986 in Madrid she became world champion in the 100 m backstroke. Two years earlier, she won the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles 100m backstroke behind Theresa Andrews. She also won 11 national titles, including 7 championships over 100 yards back.

In 1986 she was elected to America's Swimmer of the Year. In 1998, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
