Ulrike Richter (1973 )

Ulrike Richter ( born June 17, 1959 in Görlitz ) is a German former swimmer who competed for East Germany.

Career

They won their greatest successes in the backstroke. As a 14 -year-old she swam 1973 world record for the 100 meters backstroke. At the European Championships 1974, she won both the titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters backstroke and the 4 × 100 meter medley relay in each of the GDR in a new world record time.

At the World Championships in 1975 in Cali she could also win gold in the 100 meters backstroke. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal she was over 100 meters and 200 meters backstroke and the 4 × 100 meter medley relay Olympic gold medalist.

In 1983, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport. In 1976 she was awarded for her achievements at the Olympic Summer Games the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold; in 1974 she was awarded with this medal in silver.

Withdrawal and Private

In 1977 she retired from competitive sports. She is married to the former East German premier league football player Volker Schmidt.
