Bhekimpi Dlamini

Bhekimpi Alpheus Dlamini (* November 26, 1924 in the district Hhohho, † November 1, 1999 in Mbabane ) was a politician and Swazi 1983-1986 Prime Minister of Swaziland.

He fought in World War II in the ranks of the Allied Forces. After that, he was a member of the Swaziland National Council and worked in the Department of the Prime Minister. In the troubled times after the death of King Sobhuza II, he was on the side of conservative members within the royal family. As a Prince, he was also a member of Libandla, the Deliberative Assembly of the king, and the Liqoqo (inner council of fifteen members of the royal family and tribal chiefs ). The pro-reform and anti- South line of Prime Minister Mabandla Dlamini and the Regent Dzeliwe displeased him. Therefore, he participated in the overthrow of these people and was rewarded with the office of Prime Minister. He supported the Treaty of Nkomati with South Africa in 1984. In 1986, when the new King Mswati III. came to power, he was dismissed for this reason, arrested, sentenced to fifteen years in prison for conspiracy against the interests of the State in March 1988 and was sent to prison. In July of the same year he was released from custody.
