Bibra is a village in the administrative district Schmalkalden- Meiningen, in southern Thuringia. Since 1 December 2007, the formerly politically independent municipality is a town in the grave field.

Geography

Bibra is located about twelve kilometers south of Meiningen in the valley of the eponymous creek Bibra and is the gateway to the historic landscape grave field between Thuringia and Bavaria ( grave field gate).

History

Bibra 825 was first mentioned in a deed of gift to the monastery of Fulda. 1119 was called the nobles " Rubertus de Bybera ". These gentlemen were rich free and were therefore very sought after by the authorities. Eventually the Bishopric in 1343 to secure the suzerainty. 1486 was founded by Emperor Frederick III. awarded market rights. Structures
