Bill Rogers (golfer)

William Charles Rogers (known as Bill Rogers ) ( born September 10, 1951) is an American professional golfer who was best known as the winner of The Open Championship.

Life

He was born in Waco, Texas and spent as the son of Lieutenant Colonel ( Lieutenant Colonel ) of the United States Air Force his childhood in Morocco and Germany. He later attended the University of Houston, where he informed the later Golf Professional and PGA Tour participant Bruce Lietzke a room.

Sporting career

As an amateur, Bill Rogers took for the United States in 1973, part of the WalkerCup. . Between 1975 and 1988 he played on the PGA Tour, winning six tournaments, including four alone in 1981 Unusually for an American golfer, he scored his most notable successes in the UK: 1979 Suntory World Match Play Championship at Wentworth and two years later the British Open at Royal St George's Golf Club, where he defeated Bernhard Langer with four strokes.

Bill Rogers in 1981 was player of the year and second in McCormack 's World Golf Ranking. In this year he also took part in the Ryder Cup.

1982 Bill Rogers won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and led at the U.S. Open, before falling back on the last day on the shared 3rd place. After another victory on the PGA Tour in 1983, his success waned during the tour and he left the tour in 1988., He took a post as director of golf at the San Antonio Country Club and has held this the next eleven years.

Since he has reached the age of 50 in 2001, he plays every now and then on the Champions Tour for seniors, on which he as the biggest success in 2002 along with Bruce Lietzke the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament - victory won.
