Binningen, Rhineland-Palatinate

Binningen is a municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate, Cochem- Zell. It belongs to the municipality of Treis- carding.

Geography

Binningen is located in the Eifel region. The municipality also includes the hamlet Elzerhöfe and residential places Mühlenhof, Pomerania mill and Tüllenhof.

History

The village was mentioned in documents in 1266 for the first time under the name " Binningh ". Later mentions were " Binninc " ( 1297 ) and " Brumminck " ( 1473 ).

The local history is closely connected with the history of the monastery Rosenthal, which was lying on the boundaries of the present-day municipality in Pommerbachtal. The monastery was the largest landowner in the village.

By the end of the 18th century part Binningen belonged to the Electorate of Trier. From 1794, the city was under French rule until 1814 and belonged to the canton Munstermaifeld. The monastery was built in 1802 Rosenthal dissolved and sold to demolition. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. The Church in Binningen was built in 1855. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.
