Bogislaw I, Duke of Pomerania

Bogislaw I. (* 1130, † March 18, 1187 in Sosnitza at Altwarp ) was a Duke of Pomerania.

Life

After the death of father Bogislaw Wartislaw I first took over his brother Ratibor I. the government in Pomerania. It was only at the death of Ratibor I. 1155/56 Bogislaw together with his younger brother Casimir I the government. Bogislaw as the Elder was the leading of the two brothers; on coins he even used the title of king.

1164 Bogislaw and supported Casimir Pribislaw, prince of Obodrites, against Henry in the rebellion of the lion. After the victorious battle of Verchen for Henry but were Bogislaw and vassals of Henry Casimir. Bogislaw I was Henry the Lion, until its fall in 1181 faithful. Bogislaw was in his first marriage with a Walburgis († 1177 ), married. Their origin is unknown today, maybe they came from Denmark. With her he had two sons, who did not survive him, namely Ratibor († 1183 ) and Wartislaw († 1184 ).

After the death of Walburga Bogislaw married in 1177 his second wife Anastasia, a daughter of Mieszko III. , Senior Duke of Poland. Bogislaw died in 1187 and was buried in the monastery hill at the Usedom; He was followed by his sons from his second marriage Bogislaw II and Kasimir II.

His widow donated Anastasia 1224 the Prämonstratenserinnenstift Marie Busch in Treptow an der Rega, where she took her widow's residence and was buried after 1240.
