Brehy, Žarnovica District

Brehy ( German Hochstätten, Hochstein or high toll, Hungarian Magasmart - until 1898 Magosmart - older Magospart ) is a town in central Slovakia with 1073 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Žarnovica, a circle of Banskobystrický kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the narrow valley of Hron ( German Gran ) at the confluence with the stream obecný creek, between the mountains Štiavnica Hills to the east and Pohronský Inovec in the vest. The center is located at an altitude of 221 ​​m nm and is only three kilometers from Nová Bana.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1283 as Mogosmorth writing, initially was a belonging to nobles village before it to the hospital of St. Elizabeth in neighboring Königsberg (today Nová Bana Slovak ) was paid in 1391. Later, the city of Königsberg belonged. In the municipality there were once gold and silver mines.

Agriculture employment was rather limited, in contrast, but craft and pottery were more common. However, many residents commuted to work in the area of ​​Levice and Nové Zámky, after 1945 also in the whole of Czechoslovakia.

From 1976 to 1995 Brehy was part of the Nová Bana.
