Bucchianico

Bucchianico ( in the local dialect: Vicchiènechë ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5261 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region. The community is located about 5 km south-southeast of Chieti. Through it flows the Alento, which is not to be confused with the eponymous river in the southern Campania.

Traffic

Through the community, the Strada Statale 81 Piceno Apuntina leads to Chieti Altino in the north and the south. In Bucchianico it meets the former Strada Statale 649 di Fondo Valle Alento (now the provincial road 221).

Personalities

Camillus de Lellis (1550-1614), Capuchin Father, since 1746 the Holy Roman Catholic Church, Founder of Kamillaner, was born in Bucchianico.
