Bud Shuster

Elmer Greinert " Bud " Shuster ( born January 23, 1932 in Glassport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania ) is a former American politician. Between 1973 and 2001 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bud Shuster studied until 1954 at the University of Pittsburgh and then served 1954-1956 in the U.S. Army. He then continued his own education by 1960 and 1967 respectively at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and the American University in Washington DC continued. At that time he also ran their own computer company. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1976 and 1988 he took part in all the Republican National Convention as a delegate.

In the congressional elections of 1972, Shuster was selected in the ninth constituency of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of John H. Ware on January 3, 1971. After 14 Re-elections he could remain until his resignation on February 3, 2001 at the Congress. Between 1995 and 2001 he was chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. During his time in Congress of the Vietnam War ended. In 1974 the work of the Congress was burdened by the Watergate affair.

Bud Shuster resignation on February 3, 2001, for health reasons. There was also speculation that he gave his committee chairmanship in the new legislature would have to give up due to internal party rules and that he had therefore resigned. In the overdue election, his son Bill was elected as his successor in Congress.
