Castles is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Bernkastel- Kues.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the extreme tip of a glacial valley of the Moselle, which ausprägte at a time in which the flow was not set to its present bed. History

In the vicinity were found remains of human settlements from the Bronze Age as well as the ruins of a refuge, the pagan wall, which is located about 1.5 kilometers from castles behind the castle Veldenz. Wine Culture

Attractions

Restored timber and quarried stone houses, wine bars and wineries dot the village. Also worthy of note is the Grade II listed water mill dating from the late Biedermeier of 1845 with overshot water wheel and two grinding passes. In addition to regular tours, the museum charts and information about the era, a cultural and historical overview of the development of the mills as well as a description of the grinding process, with a detour into the food science. Part of the water mill is a large- scale natural gardens with stream, beech hedges, dry stone walls and herb. The Burgener are also proud of their real sequoia which, although originally only appeared in Sequoia National Park in California, but is now spread throughout the world and is not specific. In its entire length, also the Frohnbach flows openly through the village; a total of 19 stone, wood and wrought iron bridges and footbridges cross the stream. No local church in the region has nearly so many bridges. In castles, there is still a Protestant and a Catholic church.

Regular events

Regularly a carnival procession, a Maypole festival, the German mill day (Pentecost ), a Linde hard at the Musikverein, a summer festival of the Mixed Choir, the Burgener funfair, various basement parties and the obligatory Martin parade takes place in castles. In nearby Bernkastel -Kues place every budding late summer the Great Wine Festival of the Middle Mosel, one of the largest wine festivals in the Mosel instead.

Sports
