ÄŒadca District

The Okres Čadca is an administrative unit in the north of Slovakia with 91 630 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and an area of 761 km ². Going clockwise, the Okres borders on the Czech Moravian-Silesian Region, the Polish Silesian Voivodeship, Okresy Námestovo, Dolny Kubin, Zilina, Kysucké Nové Mesto, Žilina again, Bytča, for a few hundred meters to the Okres Považska Bystrica in the Trenčín Region and the Czech Republic to the Zlín.

The Okres is from west to east elongated, lies in the traditional region of Kysuce and includes several mountain countries: the Javorníky and Turzovská highlands in the west and Kysucké Beskydy and Kysucká highlands to the east. These landscapes are of numerous individual settlements ( Slow Kopanice ) covered. The majority of the population is concentrated in Kysuca valley of Makov to Čadca eastward from Čadca south flowing river. Other rivers are the Čierňanka and Bystrica, at the upper reaches of the reservoir Nová Bystrica is located.

Default, the traffic Okres is well connected and is on international routes to Czech Republic and Poland. By the middle part of the Okres verläufende main road I/11 (E 75) connects Slovakia with Czech Silesia; a branch of the main road I/12 goes to Poland. Both these roads are to be replaced in the future by the D3 highway. In the community Makov is a small part of the I/18 ( E 442 ). The road network is complemented by state roads II/484, II/487, II/520 and II/541.

By Okres the double-track railway line Žilina - Bohumín runs to the Czech Republic, which was once part of the Košice- Berger web. In Čadca two lines branch off from it: the railway line Čadca - Zwardoń connects the Slovak and the Polish railway network, while the railway line Čadca - Makov serves as a local train.

Historically, the district is located entirely within the former county Trenčín (see also List of historic counties of Hungary ). In the Administrative divisions of Czechoslovakia in the years 1960-1990 he was part of Okres Čadca, within the Stredoslovenský kraj (Central Slovakian Regional Association ).
