Callantsoog

Schagen is a coastal village in the Netherlands, North Holland province, municipality Schagen, with about 2000 inhabitants. By the end of 2012, the town belonged to the municipality Zijpe.

The village is located about fifteen kilometers south of Den Helder; nearest town ( and train station) in the inland is the Schagen ten kilometers away. There is a bus on the line 152 Further upside in the summer months by the hour designated as Zomerlijn line 851 between Petten and Den Helder.

Its history can be traced back over 1000 years. Their position was uncertain due to tides and shifting sand dunes, up to the beginning of the modern era. At times, the village was on an island and was Callinghe op ' t Oghe. The precursor of the current location was lost in the All Saints' Day of the year 1570.

Schagen is now a popular destination for Dutch and German tourists. In the village there are a number of hotels, apartments and private accommodation of the VVV office; extended in the surrounding campsites and holiday parks.

The sandy beach is directly behind the dunes and is accessible via the four beach Departures " Abbestee ", " Seinpost ", " Dorpsplein " and " Kiefteglop ". 1973 the first Dutch naturist beach was opened in Schagen. Located in the village of Dune " Seinpost " is considered the highest sand dune in North Holland.

In the south of the town is the nature reserve Zwanenwater.

A large supermarket, several shops and a variety of boutiques offer adequate shopping. There are several restaurants (not all open all year) with different cuisines ( Chinese, Italian, Mexican, ...).

Cultural facilities include a small library, a museum of local history and used by both denominations church. It is the oldest building in the village and will feature a pre- 1491 cast bell.

In contrast, Schagen not exist are a bank ( ATM only ) or a gas station ( Groote only in the neighboring villages Keeten and De Stolpen ).
