Cam Ward

Cameron Ward (born 29 February 1984 in Sherwood Park, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League since 2005.

Career

Cam Ward has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 in the first round at position 25 of the Carolina Hurricanes. He played the time being in the junior Western Hockey League for the Red Deer Rebels. In summer 2004, Cam Ward joined the professional league American Hockey League, where he played for the Lowell Lock Monsters, the farm team of the Carolina Hurricanes. He played an outstanding season, so he was admitted at the beginning of the 2005/06 season in the NHL squad by Carolina.

In the regular season he was the spare man behind the Swiss number one Martin Gerber and was able to complete a total of 28 games. In the playoffs, but then hit his finest hour. He could displace Martin Gerber and was its excellent performance in one of the very important support when his Carolina Hurricanes penetrated to the Stanley Cup final. In the final series against the Edmonton Oilers, he went with his team a 3-1 lead and believed the championship already secured, but the Oilers tied it up at 3-3, and so it came to decision-making, then the Hurricanes also thanks to an excellent performance Cam Ward won with 3-1. In the season 2006/ 07 Ward took over the post as goalkeeper and committed by the Tampa Bay Lightning John Grahame acted as back-up goalie. Ward's previous partner Martin Gerber moved from Carolina to the Ottawa Senators. Ward presented himself in his first season as the goalkeeper of the Hurricanes in good shape and showed solid performances, but the majority of the team was not able to build on the previous season and the Hurricanes missed qualifying for the playoffs.

After the end of the season Ward has performed with the Canadian national team at the World Championships and won the gold medal.
