History

Canale was founded by the free city of Asti in 1260 after the defeat of Count Biandrate. Then Asti banished lords of the castle of the bishop, who had previously shared ownership, from the community. The population moved from various villages in the area, such as Anterisio, Loreto di Canale Castelletto d' Astisio and other smaller towns there. Canale was created in the typical construction of this time as " Villanova " with rectangular streets and arcades, similar to Villanova d' Asti.

After Canale had a checkered history rule: Canale 1387 came to the county of the Visconti. This transferred the village as part of a dowry to the Orléans. 1530, the rule was ceded to the House of Savoy.

By a decree of the President of the Republic, on the recommendation of the Ministry of the Interior, Canale has received the title of " city " on 27 July 2011.
