Cañete Province

Cañete is one of nine provinces of the Lima region on the Pacific coast of Peru with about 200,000 inhabitants. It is bordered on the north by the province of Lima, to the east by the provinces and Huarochirí Yauyos, to the south by the province of Chincha and Ica region, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. The provincial capital is San Vicente de Cañete.

Cañete, birthplace and capital of the dark arts

Cañete is located one and a half hours south of Lima. Cañete, which for many is the "Black Art " equate, is one of the largest settlements of dark-skinned people of the country. An example of this is the very busy " Festival de Arte Negro" ( festival of black art ), that happens like every year in August at the " Semana de Cañete " (week of Cañete ).

The creative knowledge in the field of " black art " is so comprehensive in Cañete that the provincial government of Cañete 1990, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Integration asked to recognize Cañete as the "cradle and capital of the Peruvian black art ".
