Carlos S. Camacho

Carlos Camacho Sablan ( born February 27, 1937 on Saipan ) is an American politician. Between 1978 and 1982 he was governor of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Career

Carlos Camacho studied at the University of Hawaii. This is followed by a medical degree at the Fiji School of Medicine joined in the Fiji Islands. After qualifying as a doctor he practiced until 1967 in this profession. He then began a career in politics. He was a member of the Congress of Micronesia. Between 1969 and 1977 he was Minister of Health ( Chief Medical Officer) of the Northern Mariana Islands. From 1975 to 1977 he headed the local branch of the Democratic Party on Saipan. In 1976 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention of his homeland.

In 1977, Camacho was elected the first governor of the new U.S. foreign territory. This post he held 1978-1982. Thereafter, the Office fell by the Republicans Pedro Tenorio. After the end of his time as Governor Carlos Camacho is no longer politically have appeared.
