Caxias is a municipality in the state of Maranhão in Brazil. In the village live 148 072 inhabitants.

History

Caxias was founded on June 5, 1836. On 22 July 1939, the Diocese of Caxias do Maranhão by Pope Pius XII was. built with the Apostolic Constitution of cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão and this is a suffragan. Since 1996, a partnership between the Catholic parish of St. George in Münsterland Saerbeck and the parish of Nossa Senhora de Nazareth in Caxias.
