Ceollach

Ceollach (also Cellach ) was the second bishop of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Mercia. Irishman as its predecessor Diuma, Ceollach was also bishop of the Kingdom of Lindsey and the territory of the means fishing.

The exact dates of his tenure are not backed up, but must have been due to 658/659. According to Bede Ceollach retired to Iona. The reason for the short term Ceollachs and his return to Iona may have been the fact that as the supremacy of King Oswius was at risk of Northumbria over Mercia after the murder Peadas of Mercia, Oswiu Ceollach allowed to settle to its interests from a more secular-oriented bishop represented before. On the other hand, it is also possible that Ceollach was replaced by King Wulfhere as a bishop appointed by Oswiu by Trumhere.
