Cerniébaud

Cerniébaud is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cerniébaud is located on 982 m above sea level. M., about 15 km east of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a broad plateau between the source of Ain ​​respectively the Val de Mièges and the Jura mountains of Haute Joux.

The area of ​​10.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, the average at 980 meters above sea level. M. lies. It has only very small differences in relief and is mainly of meadow and pasture land in the southern part is mostly covered by forests. This plateau shows various karst phenomena such as sinkholes, septic sinks, carts and caves. It has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To Cerniébaud include the settlement Simon Combe ( 975 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau at the northern foot of the Saint- Sorlin as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of La Latette Cerniébaud are in the north, Mignovillard in the east, Les Pontets, Reculfoz and Le Crouzet in the south and Fraroz in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Cerniébaud belonged to the rule Nozeroy. The place name means as much as surrounded by forest. The village has been granted certain liberties in the 14th century to promote the settlement of the area. Together with the Franche -Comté Cerniébaud came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 71 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cerniébaud one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 177 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Cerniébaud was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

In winter Cerniébaud benefited from tourism, if it can be operated on the high plateau skiing.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Fraroz after Mignovillard. Further road links exist with Nozeroy and Mouthe.
