Charles Christopher Sheats

Charles Christopher Sheats ( born April 10, 1839 in Walker County, Alabama, † May 27, 1904 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican).

Career

Charles Christopher Sheats visited the community schools.

Sheats took part in the 1860 Secession Convention, refused, however, there signing the secession available. He was from 1861 until his expulsion in 1862 a member of the House of Representatives from Alabama, who came to the Union on the basis of its adherence. Sheats was accused of treason and imprisoned, but there was no process. He was released only after the end of the American Civil War. Sheats ran unsuccessfully in 1864 for a seat on the 39th U.S. Congress. It also adopted in 1865 on the Constituent Assembly part.

Sheats studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1867 and then began to practice in Decatur. Then he was appointed on 31 May 1869 by U.S. President Grant as consul in Helsingor (Denmark), a position which he held until his election to the U.S. Congress. Sheats was elected to the 43rd Congress. During his re-election attempt in 1874 the 44th U.S. Congress, however, he suffered a defeat. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1873 to 3 March 1875.

Sheats died 1904 in Decatur and was buried in McKendree Cemetery.
