Charles-Mathias Simons

Charles -Mathias Simons ( born March 27, 1802 in Bitburg, † October 5, 1874 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourgian lawyer and politician.

Charles -Mathias Simons was born in 1802 in the then Luxembourg Bitburg. In 1823 he completed his studies of law in Liege and settled in the following year as a lawyer in Diekirch down. In 1831 he was a delegate of the Belgian National Congress in Brussels, where he worked with the new Belgian constitution of.

From 1836 to 1837 Simon was a member of the Provincial Council, and in 1841 a member of the Assemblée des États. Between 1843 and 1848 he served as a member of the Governing Council and the Assembly in 1848 constituante. From August 1 to December 2, 1848, he was general manager for community affairs in the government de la Fontaine.

After the government had been at the request of King - Grand Duke William III. , Who was represented by his brother Henry of Orange -Nassau, discontinued, Charles- Mathias Simons was appointed on September 23, 1853 to the Minister of State and government Presidents of Luxembourg.

In Simon's reign the revision of the Luxembourg constitution of 1856, which implemented the King and Grand Duke against the will of Parliament and the zusprach him more power fell. At the same time the rights of Parliament ( the Chamber ) were circumcised and the State used as a supervisory body.

In Simon's time as Minister of State, the first railway line, the first of Luxembourg banks ( Banque Internationale à Luxembourg and Savings Bank ) was inaugurated on 4 October 1859 and founded.

On September 26, 1860 Simon was forced to resign under pressure from the opposition because the opposition to his coup government in parliament after the election was too large.

Subsequently, he was until 1874 a member of the State Council. Simons died on 5 October 1874 in Luxembourg City.
