Victor Thorn

Victor Thorn ( born January 31, 1844 in Esch- sur -Alzette, † September 15, 1930 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourgian politician.

Life

Victor Thorn studied from 1863 to 1866 jurisprudence in Ghent, Heidelberg and Dijon. From 1867 to 1883 Thorn worked as a lawyer. In 1883 he was a prosecutor from 1885 to 1888 he was a member of the State Council. From 1888 to 1892 he was Director General (Minister ) of Public Works of the Government Eyschen.

1899 Thorn was Attorney General. In 1915 he was Justice and Bautenminister in government Mongenast. 1916 had the Loutsch government to resign after the Chamber had deprived her confidence. A month later, Victor Thorn was able to present a new government, in which the three major parties were represented Luxembourg. It was all about to cope with the supply crisis in Luxembourg, which was getting worse by the First World War. The government had to ration the food and determined maximum prices. Then the black market flourished and the tensions between urban and rural populations increased. 1917 came in the minette region to a strike, which was disbanded by the German army. Agriculture Minister Michel Welter lost the confidence of the Chamber; a crisis that brought the whole government to fall.

By 1929, Victor Thorn was president of the State Council. From 1921 to 1927 he was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
