Emmanuel Servais

Lambert Joseph Emmanuel Servais ( born April 11, 1811 in Mersch, † June 17, 1890 in Bad Nauheim ) was a Luxembourgian politician and writer.

Life

Emmanuel Servais studied from 1829 to 1833 in Ghent, Paris and Liege law and settled then in Arlon as a lawyer down. During the period of Belgian Revolution Servais played an active role and was a member of the Provincial Council. During these years he founded the newspaper L'Echo du Luxembourg.

1839 Servais returned back to Mersch and enrolled in Luxembourg as a lawyer. Between 1841 and 1848 he was a member of the Assemblée des États and in 1848 representatives constituante in the Assembly. From 20th May 1848 to May 30, 1849 Servais Luxembourg represented in the National Assembly in Frankfurt.

From 1853 to 1857 he was Director General (Minister ) of Finance in the government of Charles -Mathias Simons. Between 1857 and 1867 Servais was a member of the State Council. In 1867 he was Minister of State and President of the Government. On December 26, 1874, he was surprisingly announced his retirement. Servais was until 1887 Chairman of the State Council and from 1875 to 1890 mayor of the city of Luxembourg.
