Chavannes-sur-l'Étang
Chavannes -sur- l'Étang ( German Schaffnatt the pond ) is a municipality with 645 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the canton Dannemarie in the department of Haut-Rhin in Alsace region of France. She is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Porte d' Alsace ( CCPA ).
Geography
The village is in the Burgundian gate at the Rhine- Rhone canal between Altkirch and Belfort. In the west and north borders the municipality of Chavannes to the region of Franche -Comté.
History
The village was first mentioned in 1458 under the name Small Chaffnat. The church was built in 1772. On June 29, 1815 there made Lecourbe station the troops of the French General Claude- Jacques.
