Cherkasy Oblast

The Cherkasy Oblast (Ukrainian Черкаська область / Tscherkaska oblast, Russian Черкасская область / Tscherkasskaja oblast ) was founded in 1954 and is the youngest of 25 administrative units ( oblasts of Ukraine) in the center of Ukraine. It has 1.26 million inhabitants (2014).

It is a hilly landscape with an area of ​​20,900 km ² (which corresponds approximately to the area of Hessen ), which is used mainly for agriculture (including wheat, corn and sunflower fields). The largest dimension is in east-west direction 225 km, with the highest elevation in the west to 275 m, the deepest place in the East with 100 m height above sea level is. There also the Dnipro crosses (Russian: Dnepr) the oblast, which is dammed here to Krementschuker reservoir (length 100 km, width 20 km). At this reservoir is also the capital of Cherkassy. It is an administrative, economic and cultural center of the oblast.
