Cheung Kong (Holdings)
The Chinese company Cheung Kong (Holdings) is the flagship company and the holding company of the Cheung Kong Group and headquartered in Hong Kong.
The group consists of ten companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange ( HKSE ) are listed. The market capitalization of the entire group is 815 000 000 000 HK $ (as of 15 May 2007).
The Cheung Kong Group operates in various lines of business, real estate and media via telecommunications to biotechnology, ports and retail. It operates in 55 countries and has 240,000 employees.
Li Ka Shing founded Cheung Kong Industries in 1950 as a manufacturing company of plastic. Under his leadership the company grew very strong and developed into a construction and investment companies. In 1972 he brought Cheung Kong (Holdings) on the stock market, in 1979, he took over the Hutchison Whampoa Limited, which now belongs to almost 50% of Cheung Kong (Holdings).
Today, Mr. Li Ka Shing is the Chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings ) Limited and Hutchison Whampoa Limited. His eldest son, Victor Li is the Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings ) Limited, Deputy Chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Limited, and Chairman of Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited and CK Life Sciences Int'l., (Holdings) Inc.
