Christian Theodor Weinlig

Christian Theodor Weinlig ( born July 25, 1780 in Dresden, † March 7, 1842 in Leipzig) was a German lawyer, a music teacher, composer and choral conductor in Dresden and Leipzig.

Life

Weinlig studied from 1797 to 1803 Law at the University of Leipzig and worked since 1803 as a lawyer in Dresden. He received his musical training under his uncle Christian honor God Weinlig, who was cantor at the Dresden Cross Church, and Stanislao Mattei in Bologna. There was Christian Theodor Weinlig member of the Accademia Filarmonica.

From 1814 to 1817 Weinlig initially worked as a cantor in Dresden, 1823 he was cantor in Leipzig. This office he led until his death.

Among the most famous students Weinlig the pianist Clara Schumann were born Wieck and the composer and conductor Richard Wagner. This dedicated to him also his first work (Piano Sonata in B- flat major ). One of his children was later Saxon Minister of the Interior, the physician and journalist Albert Christian Weinlig. Weinlig was buried in the Old St. John's Cemetery in Leipzig (v. Department on the east wall, south of the main path ). His grave panel is still preserved.

1900 a street in the district of Leipzig Gohlis was named after CT Weinlig ( Weinligstraße ).
