Johann Schelle

Johann Schelle ( born September 6, 1648 Geising (Erzgebirge), † March 10, 1701 in Leipzig ) was a German composer of the Baroque.

Life

The son of the cantor and Rector Jonas clamp was already at the age of seven years Diskantist the Saxon court orchestra in Dresden under Heinrich Schütz. On his recommendation clip was recorded in 1657 as a chorister in the ducal chapel in Wolfenbüttel, worked for Heinrich Schütz as Kapellmeister.

Clamp was the teacher of Johann Theodor Roemhildt, Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, Reinhard Keiser, Johann Christoph Graupner and Johann David Heinichen.

Works

The majority of his work were sacred works with German text, very few of which were published in his lifetime. Some of his hymns were " The devout student" to 1693 printed in Joachim Feller's Songbook. 25 obtained in the manuscript cantatas are in the Berlin State Library. These works show Schelles importance for the development of this musical genre. He was one of the first composers to biblical words and free seal interrelated. Also, its got members of the genus of the chorale cantatas with the oldest of its kind
