Cimetière parisien de Bagneux

The Cimetière parisien de Bagneux ( German Parisian cemetery of Bagneux ) is one of the cemeteries in the French capital Paris. He lieigt extra muros south of Paris in Bagneux, Département Hauts -de- Seine. The main entrance is located on Avenue Marx Dormoy 45 Two other inputs, Porte de Fontenay and Porte de Bagneux, located on the Avenue Jean Jaures in the west and rue de l' Egalite on the southern end of the site.

History

During the time of the Paris Commune in May 1871, heavy fighting prevailed in the area of the later cemetery. The Cimetière parisien de Bagneux was opened on 15 November 1886. In the cemetery are now more than 83,000 graves in 115 divisions divided. The area has a wide range of Jewish grave sites. With 61.5 hectares, it is in terms of area after Pantin (107 hectares) and Thiais ( 103 hectares ) third largest cemetery in Paris. About the site are 5912 trees of 49 different species. The individual divisions are surrounded by high hedges. Thus, the cemetery looks at first glance like a parkland. The largest on Paris urban area is the location in the 20th arrondissement Cimetière du Père -Lachaise cemetery with approximately 44 acres.

Among the best known, mainly French, personalities in this cemetery include Jules Rimet, FIFA President and co-founder of the World Cup, the film director Claude Berri, the singers Frida Boccara and Barbara and the two-time winner of the Tour de France Edmond Jacquelin.

There were other personalities who have now been reburied at other cemeteries. The Irish writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was buried in Bagneux before he was reburied in 1909 at the Cimetière du Père -Lachaise cemetery. The painter Henri Rousseau, who died in Paris, was laid on October 12, 1947 in his birthplace Laval in the People's Garden Jardin de la Perrine. The painter Jeanne Hebuterne in 1930 moved from Bagneux to her husband Amedeo Modigliani at the Père Lachaise Cemetery.
