Cirò, Calabria
Ciro is a municipality in the province of Crotone in the Calabria region with 3087 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 41 km north of Crotone and 120 kilometers east of Cosenza.
Geography
The place is located in the hinterland of the coast of the Ionian Sea on the mountain Ciro (351 m meters above sea level) on a ridge of the hinterland. The municipal area extends from the coast over the plain of Alice to the foothills of the Sila Grande
At Ciro include the districts Capella, Cappelleri, Casale Attiva and Toscano. The much larger coastal town of Ciro Marina in 1952 ausgemeindet.
The nearby towns are Carfizzi, Ciro Marina, Crucoli, Melissa and Umbriatico.
Traffic
The village is located six kilometers from the Strada Statale SS 106 Jonica, leading from Reggio Calabria to Taranto, removed.
The nearest train station is six kilometers away in Ciro Marina on the railway line Reggio Calabria - Taranto.
History
Pottery and an ancient necropolis suggest a settlement since the Iron Age.

The cityscape is dominated by the Castello Carafa, a fortress from the late fifteenth century.
Specialty
The place name Ciro was also the place surrounding the DOC wine region its name to the wine of the same is made. In this growing area both red, white and rosé wines are grown ( Ciro Rosso, Bianco and Ciro Ciro Rosato ). The grapes of the variety Gaglioppo are the main constituent of red wine. For Ciro Bianco Greco Bianco and Trebbiano is used essentially. The Rossato has shares of all three varieties.
