Claude Antoine Compère

Claude Antoine Compère ( born May 21, 1774 Châlons -sur -Marne, † September 7, 1812 at Borodino ) was a French general.

Life

Compère was the younger son of the administrators Louis -Quentin Compère; General Louis Henri Compère (1768-1833) was his older brother. Inspired by the ideals of the revolution came Compère 1789 in the army and was early an enthusiastic supporter of Napoleon.

In some battles to Compère was distinguished by bravery and was promoted very quickly.

1812 Compère could participate already in the rank of general in Napoleon's Russian campaign. He fought bravely with Me ( 9-10. July 1812 ), Ostrowno (25 July 1812), Kljastizy (July 29 / August 1, 1812 ) and Smolensk ( 17-18. August 1812 ). In the Battle of Borodino (7 September 1812) Compère was killed and found on the edge of the battlefield, his final resting place.

Honors

  • His name is found on the western pillar ( 38th column ) of the Arc de Triomphe on Place Charles -de- Gaulle ( Paris).
