Coat of arms of Benin

The coat of arms of Benin in 1990 again adopted after it was already in use from 1964 to 1975. At the top is the national symbol: two filled with corn and cornucopias sand that stand for prosperity. Below is a shield, which is divided into four quadrants. In the upper left square is a castle in the style of Somba, which represents the history of Benin. The square on the top right you can see is the Star of Benin, the highest national award. Below is a ship. For the arrival of Europeans in Benin The square on the bottom left there is a palm tree. The palace is surrounded by a leopard shield left and right. These are the national animal of Benin. Below is a scroll, on which the national motto ( " brotherhood, justice, work") is in French.

Coat of Arms of the People's Republic of Benin

In 1972, the government adopted a Marxist- lenistischen course and converted into a People's Republic of Benin. This also the national emblem in 1975 was changed to a system modeled on the Soviet Union Coat of Arms. After Benin was in 1990 once again become a republic, we took again the coat of arms of 1964.
