Geography
The place is located in the southeast of the Altmark, about 25 km south of the county town of Stendal. He is agricultural, particularly marked by the cultivation of asparagus.
History
The first mention of Cobbel was 1285 in a deed, already under the modern place- names. However, the place is already occupied in a freight directory of Corvey Abbey in the years 1053-1071, 1136 belonged to the district Cistercian Monastery of Mariental. 1375 Cobbel was 503 acres in size and was managed by seven Kossaten. 1448, the village belonged to the manor Uetz. The Thirty Years' War, the village was completely a victim, so it was a short time to a deserted village. From 1691 to 1785 Cobbel belonged to the Baron von der Schulenburg on Kehnert. On May 31, 2010, Cobbel joined with the other municipalities in the administrative community Tangerhütte - country together to the new city Tangerhütte.
From the local history of the surrounding communities, we learn that asparagus was already introduced and cultivated during the Napoleonic occupation in the early 19th century by the French. The loose, sandy soil of the surrounding country offered this excellent conditions. Traditional crops such as potatoes, corn and beets, however, brought only moderate yield. Many farmers operated about growing asparagus very intense - so to this day in Cobbel. The asparagus cultivation has remained an arduous and physically demanding job until the recent time.
