Converse is a city in Bexar County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located about 20 km northeast of San Antonio, almost centrally located in the County, in south central Texas and has a total area of 16.4 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The city was named after Major Converse, a chief engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 11,508 people in 3,837 households and 3,077 families. The population density was 701.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 69.39 % White, 13.03 % African American, 0.56 % Native American, 2.20 % Asian, 0.14 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 10.65 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 4.04% were of mixed descent, and 29.44 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
