Corrientes ( Guaraní: Taragui ) is a province in northeast Argentina. The name comes from the rivers Río Paraná and Río Uruguay, flowing through the province and means as much as streams.

Geography

The province is bordered on the north by the province of Misiones and Paraguay, on the west by the provinces of Santa Fe and Chaco, to the south by the province of Entre Ríos and on the east by Brazil.

The province lies between the two streams Río Paraná and Río Uruguay. In the center is a vast wetland, the Esteros del Ibera, which is under protection today. The area is almost completely flat. Except for the hilly north-east, which already goes into the hill country of Misiones There is a typical savanna vegetation with small forest areas.

Economy

The economy consists of cattle, agriculture and forestry.

Cattle breeding

On Uruguay is the largest city in Paso de los Libres with 45,000 inhabitants. Inland is the only city of significance Mercedes with 40,000 inhabitants.

Culture

It is famous Corrientes et al for its colorful Carnival that resembles a bit of the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro.
