Cory Emmerton

Cory Emmerton ( born June 1, 1988 in St. Thomas, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who currently is under contract with the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League and comes in parallel in the AHL for use.

Career

Cory Emmerton first played in unterklassigen Canadian Junior leagues before the attackers from 2004 for the Kingston Frontenacs in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League walked out onto the ice. In his debut season he scored 38 points scorer in 58 games, but the team qualified to the last place of the Eastern Conference not for the playoffs. In his second season Emmerton was already one of the most important players in the Frontenacs. He was the top scoring player of the team with 26 goals and 64 assists and finished in eleventh place in the rating of the OHL scorer. In the playoffs, he scored two goals and his team retired in the first round. In April 2006 Emmerton played with the Canadian national junior team at the U18 World Youth Championship, where they finished fourth.

Although he was one of the best scorers of the season and was led by the scouts of the National Hockey League in tenth of all North American field players in his class, he was elected the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 at position 41.

In the 2006/07 season Emmerton started as one of the leading players in the OHL with 58 points scorer in 35 games before he broke his ankle in December 2006. After the nine-week injury lay-off, he returned in March 2007 and finished the season with 66 points finally. Even in the playoffs he could build on the achievements and shot five goals in five games, but the Frontenacs again not progressed beyond the first round. A little later he was first appointed to the cadre of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the American Hockey League and played for them two playoff games.

In autumn 2007, he joined with a Canadian U20 selection in eight games lasting Super Series against a Russian national team in the same age class that could decide Canada with seven wins and a draw in itself. Emmerton came seven times for use, but had no point scorer. Shortly thereafter, he was invited for the first time into the training camp of the Detroit Red Wings and played a preseason game with the NHL team, but before he returned to the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL.

Due to its services in the past two seasons Emmerton went as one of the favorites to win the title as the best scorer in the 2007/ 08 season. In his first 24 games, he had 31 points although a good yield, but fell short of high expectations. In addition, he was then transferred within the League for the Brampton Battalion and had to miss several games because he was ill with glandular fever. The rest of the season, he played with a solid performance and even scored twelve goals and 18 assists, but could not build on the form of previous years. In the playoffs the Battalion failed to outsiders Barrie Colts and joined Emmerton in March 2008 on the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, where he contributed one assist in seven games. A month later he was invited to the training camp of the Canadian national team, but was not provided for the World Cup and played only in preseason games.

The season 2008/ 09 he finally played in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Emmerton showed good performance, but frequently showed lack of consistency. He collected in November 2008, within eight games of nine points scorer, so he needed to reach in the sequence over two months to the same yield. After several players were appointed in February 2009 in the NHL, Emmerton was able to increase his offensive game again. During the 2011/12 season he finally earned himself a place in the NHL squad of Detroit Red Wings.

In November 2013 Emmerton was placed on the waiver in order to then deliver it to the Grand Rapids Griffins. He remained there, however, no two weeks, as he was called back into the NHL squad due to the injury to Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.
