Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson

Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson ( born August 26, 1969 in Stockholm, Sweden) is an Icelandic artist. He grew up in Reykjavík.

Since the 1980s Daníel Ágúst composes music of different styles ( electronic music, rock, blues, country and experimental music) and singing in various bands or solo. He also worked as an actor or worked in various roles in art film productions.

Artistic Career

Daníel Ágúst represented Iceland at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1989 with the song Thad this enginn Ser ( German: What no one sees ). He ended up with zero points at the 22nd and last place.

The mid-1990s he founded during the filming of a short film called Pleasure, the band GusGus together with Sigurdur Kjartansson, Stefán Árni Þorgeirsson, Herb Lego joke Hafdís grace, Magnús Jónsson, Birna Hafstein, Kjartan Guðjónsson, Stephan Stephensen, Baldur Stefansson, Birgir Þórarinsson and Magnús Guðmundsson.

1996 wrote GusGus a recording contract with the label 4AD, appeared on the two albums ( ' Polydistortion ' and 'This is normal'). Daníel Ágúst was until 2000 one of the lead singer of the band, which he left in order to concentrate on other projects.

In the following years Daníel Ágúst wrote several pieces for soundtracks of movies Down to You, Nurse Betty - Dangerous Dreams, 15 minutes of fame, life or something like that and documentaries as well as music for dance theater.

In addition to his musical activities, he worked with Gabríela Friðriksdóttir to the art films Tetralogia that were shown at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005 at the Icelandic pavilion. He drew among others responsible for the section of four short films. With Gabríela Kristin Friðriksdóttir he worked on other art films, among other things, were shown at the KunstFilmBiennale 2007 in Cologne.

In February 2006, his first solo album Swallowed a Star appeared on the label One Little Indian Records. The style of this work is most likely to describe experimental music. The album was not a commercial success, but received good reviews.

Since the autumn of 2006 he sings in Icelandic Blues-/Country-/Rock-Band Esja, which he founded together with the Icelandic musicians Krummi. The debut album of the band appeared on August 15, 2009.

After Daníel Ágúst was represented at the two GusGus albums Attention and Forever as a singer / songwriter with one song, he is since 2008 a permanent member of the techno / soul band. After 24/7 was released on 23 May 2011 the album Arabian Horse on the Cologne label Kompakt.

Private life

Haraldsson is married to Gabríela Friðriksdóttir since 13 June 1993. The couple has a daughter, Daniela since 1989.
