Daniel Dorff

Daniel Dorff ( born March 7, 1956 in New Rochelle / New York) is an American composer.

Dorff studied at Cornell University and received his master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania as a composition student of George Rochberg, George Crumb, Karel Husa, Henry Brant, Ralph Shapey, Elie victory Champion and Richard Wernick. He also studied saxophone with Sigurd Rascher. From 1980 to 2002 he was a bass clarinetist in the Symphony in C ( formerly Haddonfield Symphony ), since 1996 there also Composer in Residence.

At the age of 18 years Dorff won with Fantasy, Scherzo and Nocturne for Saxophone Quartet first prize in the composition competition of the Aspen Music Festival. His compositions have been of major orchestras of the United States and the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, soloists such as Marc- André Hamelin (piano ), John Bruce Yeh (clarinet ), Jean -Pierre Rampal, Donald Peck, Mimi Stillman and Gary Shocker (flute) and conductors such as Alan Gilbert and Wolfgang Sawallisch listed. He composed orchestral works and chamber music, choral works, pieces for solo instruments and several musicals for children.

Village is a member of the board of the Music Publishers ' Association of the USA, the National Flute Association and the Charles Ives Society.
