Darryl Sydor

Darryl Sydor Marion ( born May 13, 1972 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player with U.S. citizenship who played from 1992 to 2010 in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender. Since the end of June 2011, he works as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League.

Career

Sydor played during his junior time along with Scott Niedermayer for the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League. NHL Entry Draft 1990, he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round as the total seventh. He stayed two more years in Kamloops and was able to win in his last year in the juniors both the Memorial Cup and World Junior Championship. Also in the season 1991/92 he also gave his NHL debut with the Kings.

From the 1992/93 season he was then an integral part of the Kings, with whom he in his first year reached the same final series for the Stanley Cup. However, the Montreal Canadiens snapped the Kings Wayne Gretzky to the title away. In his time with the Kings, the title came at the World Championships in 1994. Churla For Shane and Doug Zmolek the Kings gave him in February 1996 to the Dallas Stars from. After the Stars missed the playoffs, he won the silver medal at the World Championships in 1996 with the Canadian national team.

In the following years he gave to the defense of the Stars and security has also been nominated twice for the NHL All-Star Game. He also had large share of the Stanley Cup win of the stars in the season 1998 /99. The following year he reached his third with the team finals series, but as with his first attempt he failed. In the summer of 2003, the Columbus Blue Jackets brought him in exchange for Mike Sillinger and a draft law. This gave him during the season 2003/ 04 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on. With Tampa he again reached the final of the Stanley Cup and was able to win his second title there. After the strike season of 2004 /05 he remained a year with the Bolts, before returning for a fourth- round draft law to the Dallas Stars, but where he remained only until the end of the season because of his expiring contract. On 1 July 2007 he signed as a free agent a new contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. This, he remained loyal throughout the season and reached the finals of the team to the Stanley Cup, where the team defeated the Detroit Red Wings. After a weak start Sydors in the 2008/ 09 season he was for defender Philippe Boucher to his former team, the Dallas Stars transferred.

Sydor signed at the beginning of the NHL season 2009/10, a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues, for which, he completed 47 games. On 13 July 2010, the defense announced end of his career. In the 2010/11 season Sydor worked with Brian Wiseman as assistant coach with the Houston Aeros under head coach Mike Yeo. After Yeos carriage, who was signed in June 2011 as head coach of the Minnesota Wild, Sydor followed him end of the month as an assistant coach.
