David P. Buckson

David Penrose Buckson ( born July 25, 1920 in Townsend, Delaware ) is a former American politician. He was from 1960 to 1961 for a short time Governor of the State of Delaware.

Early years

David Buckson visited until 1941, the University of Delaware. During the Second World War he served as a major in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. After his return, he continued his education with a law degree from the Dickinson Law School in Pennsylvania. There, he graduated in 1949.

Political career

Buckson is a member of the Republican Party. In 1956 he was in Delaware board member of his party. Between 1956 and 1957 he was a judge of a court of appeal. In 1956 he was elected vice- governor of his state. He was until 1960 deputy governor Cale Boggs. When he resigned after his election to the U.S. Senate on December 30, 1960 by his office, Buckson had to finish the remainder of the term. That in this case were exactly 19 days until 17 January 1961. On that day he handed the office to Elbert N. Carvel. From 1963 to 1971 he was attorney general of Delaware. In the years 1964 and 1968 ran unsuccessfully for Buckson own term as governor. In 1975 he became a judge in a family court in Delaware. He now lives in retirement. With his wife Patricia Maloney he has four children.
