The Danish Hockey played internationally for a long time no special role. As the only A- FIFA World Cup tournament in Sweden was to beech, stemmed from the aforementioned 0:47 - reproach. It was not until the turn of the millennium, this changed. An extensive junior program of the Danish Ice Hockey Association seemed to bear fruit in 1999, when it was in the B- World Cup at home ( in Odense and Rødovre ) First; however, one had in the then ( and in that year for the only time ) discharged Relegation teams from Italy, France and Norway to defer and could not qualify for the upcoming A World Championship in Saint Petersburg. To prepare for the annual World Championships, the national team participated regularly in tournaments in the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge.

It was only in 2002, when Division I tournament in Hungary, the Danes finally managed to direct ascent and since then managed to hold in the A group. In the first year they made there for a tangible surprise when they defeated in the opening game, the USA 5-2 and then sent to the relegation round, while keeping it reached the second round and with a respectable for a promoted eleventh place finished ( eg by a draw against eventual champions Canada).

At the World Cup in 2010, the Danes qualified surprising for the quarter-finals, where they lost the Scandinavian neighbors Sweden with 2:4. Eighth place at the World Cup also meant the best World Cup placing the Danish national team at all.
