Desulfobacteraceae

The Desulfobacteraceae form a family from within the delta Proteobacteria. Like all families of the order Desulfobacterales they are to reduce sulfate in the situation ( Desulfurikation ). By the sulfate reducing energy is obtained, which is reacted further in the metabolism. The end product of hydrogen sulfide is excreted. One speaks here of the sulfate respiration.

Way of life

Most species of sulfate-reducing bacteria are obligate anaerobic, they can only live without oxygen. Such conditions prevail, for example, within the mud bottoms of lakes or under water soils. Some (such as species of the genus Desulfobacterium ) are chemolithotroph, they are able to feed exclusively on inorganic materials with hydrogen as the electron donor. As the carbon source serves them carbon dioxide. Some species occur exclusively in sea water before (eg Desulfobacterium ).

Morphology

The cell shape is different for the various classes, there are filamentous ( filamentous ) forms ( beispielsweise. at Desulfonema ) but also rod-shaped ( Desulfobakterium ) or coccoid cells shaped package are annealed, so-called Sarcina ( Desulfosarcina ). Some species possess flagella (for example Desulfobacter ).
