History

In 1711, Prince Dmitry Konstantinovich Kantemir left on the land that had been given to him by Tsar Peter the Great, built a settlement with his name, which received city rights in 1782 and 1788 was raised to the county seat. In order to better distinguish it from the nearby town of Dmitriev - Lgowski and Dmitrov near Moscow in 1929, she received the additional name Orlowski. With the German occupation on 2 October 1941 and the liberation by the Soviet Army until August 12, 1943 Dmitrovsk was largely destroyed. 1929, the city was renamed in Dmitrovsk - Orlowski, to avoid confusion with the town of Dmitrov near Moscow. 2005, however, was the return renaming.
